New Expanded Feature - Support Friends - Need Feedback Please

Posted in Group:

Hi Everyone,

I would like to get some feedback on a new feature we are expanding on. This has to do with "Support Friends".

The idea is that you would be able to build your own, personal Support Network. This can be people who are your friends on this site or people who are going through the same challenges that you are. You would friend request people just like you do on other sites like facebook.

Then, when you come to the homepage, the first thing you would see would be all the posts and comments from your Support Friends. Then below these posts would be all the posts from the entire site/community.

We hope this will make it easier for all of you to follow each other and stay in touch. Please note that none of the other features will change. You will still be able to see all posts, all support groups, etc.

Would love some feedback:)

Thanks.

Vic

That would be so awsome. Super idea, That would be wonderful if you had groups for support like FB, I like the fact that you would see it on the home page.. right know it's hard to find some one that you have posted to.

This sounds like a cool idea but I just had a few questions. Right now if I go to someone's profile page I see next to their picture I can request to be their Support Friend. I assume this is what I would do. Right? Then after a while I would have more and more support friends (hopefully...lol) and when I go to the homepage I would log in and then the first thing I would see is all posts from my friends only? If so I think this is great.

Also, do you have any plans on changing user profile pages? I am not sure some of it makes sense.

Not a bad idea, especially if you have your own little chat room. The only problem i see is that not everyone can be online at the same time. I've nevr usd it but you have a meetings button and the support button already. For example if you get a notice and the person is talking about gambling and that isn't your problem so have no opinion it would be a waste of server space.

However a good thing for the site would be the ability to print out messages in a font you can read. It gets real confusing to read a post or private message when you have to scroll up and down forever to answer somebodies questions. So give each post a number and just make that reply printable. Not the whole thread, and panels on both sides of the message. That would unconfuse a lot of things.

Also one of the firls i've been talking to in private told me about some dude that wanted her pictures and basically said he wanted to have sex with her, a real slim ball. A complaint button would be nice giving the users name and reason. I don't know if the block author button you have on the bottom of messeages pops a box up asking why you want this person blocked. Send a warning if it happens again use their IP and ban them.

Also some of the stuff i've read without going into great detail is very inappropriate. Just like that guy i just talked about.

I know using the site is free, have to make money somehow or use it as a write off and we are lab rats. But, you need more than one moderator for people who use the site. I've mailed you twice and never got an answer.

So since moderating takes a heck of a lot of time they should be paid somehow, grants or something since this is a non profit site and or company.

It would be nice to get an answer for onece.

Well as now you can't tell if any one has posted to your post, with out looking at the number of post at the side. So I love the idea more support friends you have the better you stay addicted free is my thought.

To answer some of the questions:

1) abner - yes, the process is exactly how you outlined it. Also, we plan to update people's profile pages so it will only show the posts that you have made along with any comments to your posts. This will hopefully make it easier to see replies to your posts.

2) Michael - this is good feedback. We will add a "flag" this post and/or user button so people can report bad info or behavior. Sorry that I missed your PM. I will answer right away - it's been a little hectic with all of the things we are working on to add to this site.

Vic, I think that this is a phenomenal idea because within the entirety of Support Groups there are definitely communities/groups being created amongst Supporters either going through the same thing(s) or developing friendships. This creates total convenience and ease of use; I log-in and am immediately able to see friends' activities; their posts, comments, etc. Yet again, another brilliant feature to take this Site to such a fantastic level. Thank you so much for your continued dedication to all of us here.

Sending you many positive vibes and wishing you all of the best.

Thank you, Vic.
I was wondering if there was a way for a link, after the thread title that says-
Go to last post.
Otherwise, really enjoy this site, despite the cause for it, and was also wondering if you can add a new forum:
"For People Addicted to their Support Group"
hehehhehehe only kidding but...I think this holds true for many of us!

Geri, you made me laugh out loud with your new group suggestion. To understand correctly, you would like a link at the bottom of the thread that will take you to the last comment or original post? Thank you!

Sending you many positive vibes and wishing you all of the best.
